Why Resistance Bands Are Perfect for Beginners
Resistance bands are forgiving on joints, scalable to any fitness level, and versatile enough to replace an entire gym. This beginner workout uses just a set of loop bands — the same ones used in physio clinics and professional sports teams worldwide.
The Full Body Beginner Workout
Perform each exercise for 3 sets of 12 reps. Rest 30-45 seconds between sets. Complete the entire circuit 2-3 times per week with at least one rest day between sessions.
Upper Body Exercises
- Banded pull-aparts — rear deltoids and upper back posture
- Bicep curls with band — standing, palms facing up
- Tricep pushdown — anchor band overhead, press down
- Banded push-up — band across back increases chest resistance
Lower Body Exercises
- Banded squats — loop band above knees, sit back into squat
- Glute bridges with band — loop above knees, drive hips up
- Lateral band walks — loop around ankles, step side to side
- Standing kickbacks — loop around ankles, kick leg back
Core Exercises
- Banded dead bugs — lying on back, band around feet
- Pallof press — anchor band at chest height, press out and hold
Start with the lightest band in your set. Form matters far more than resistance level — especially as a beginner. Perfect technique with a light band builds better results than sloppy form with a heavy band.
